A rise in American Jewish gun ownership would come as a noticeable shift for a group that is historically liberal and a majority of which are registered Democrats. A 2018 American Jewish Committee poll showed 70% of Jewish respondents thought it was more important to control gun ownership than to protect Americans’ rights to own guns. The US government does not keep official statistics on gun ownership, including demographic information. Research from industry groups like the National Shooting Sports Foundation break down gun ownership by race and gender but not by religious affiliation. The spike in violence and hateful rhetoric has evoked fears within the Jewish community of another Holocaust, according to Daniel.

It’s also a clear sign that the gun safety movement needs to get to work reforming the Supreme Court. Regardless of how Rahimi is decided, the Supreme Court has already done enormous damage to our ability to keep Americans safe from gun violence. We need Supreme Court expansion to restore balance and sanity to the Court. Fortunately, Supreme Court expansion is clearly constitutional: Congress has done it multiple times throughout American history and we can do it again. Expanding the Supreme Court would be yet another way we can fight the war against senseless gun violence.

Oct 16 (Reuters) - Vista Outdoor (VSTO.N) said on Monday it would sell its sporting products business in a $1.91 billion deal, although its shares tumbled about 20% in early trading after it cut its full-year sales forecast. The all-cash sale of the sporting products unit, which includes its guns and ammunition business, to privately held Czechoslovak Group a.s. (CSG) is expected to close next calendar year, Vista Outdoor said. Earlier this month, Vista spun off its outdoor products segment, which includes helmets and water bottles, into a separate publicly traded company called Revelyst as part of its previously announced plan. Vista said in a call with analysts and investors that the separation of its sporting and outdoor goods units will be formalized at the closing of its deal with CSG. CSG said it plans to take $1.11 billion of debt financing to fund the deal with Vista Outdoor.

Here are four trends that are shaping the gun industry today:Market normalizationSeveral companies in the gun market are slowing down production and slashing prices as they combat material cost increases and waning demand for their weapons. Gun sales typically see a spike during presidential elections, Dionisio added. Investors in Biofire include venture capitalist Ron Conway and Peter Thiel's Founders Fund Biofire's smart gun comes as gun manufacturers increasingly look for different materials and technologies to make their products more appealing to consumers. "Smart guns can ensure that guns are accessible by their owners and no one else," said Nick Suplina, senior vice president for law and policy at Everytown, who has tested Biofire's smart gun. First-time gun purchasers during the pandemic, according to the study, were younger than previous, pre-pandemic U.S. gun owners.

Retail crime has hit a bustling Kansas metropolis

Republican Kris Kobach, Kansas’ attorney general, said retail crime is a “spiraling problem” in his state, adding that Kansas and Missouri are among the top 10 states in the nation for volume of retail crime. “There is a link between drug trafficking and organized retail crime,” Kobach told lawmakers in June. “Organized retail crime is a problem that is getting worse, not better. Organized retail crime offers criminals a business model of pure profit, “with no overhead, rent, product cost. In early June, Kobach testified before a House Judiciary Committee hearing on “Organized Retail Crime and the Threat to Public Safety.”“When one thinks about the explosion of organized retail crime in the United States, the State of Kansas may not intuitively jump to mind,” he told lawmakers.

Why Some Americans Buy Guns

In 2020, while many communities were under Covid lockdowns, protesters were flooding the streets and economic uncertainty and social isolation were deepening, Americans went on a shopping spree. Some 22 million guns were sold that year, 64 percent more than in 2019. The death count from guns, including suicides, rose to 45,222 in 2020 from 39,702 in 2019. The number of lives lost to guns rose again in 2021, to 48,830. After quashing research into gun violence for 25 years, Congress began funneling millions of dollars to federal agencies in 2021 to gather data.

Opinion | Gun Idolatry Is Destroying the Case for Guns

And yes, I support gun rights, not just for hunting or shooting sports, but for the purpose of self-defense. I’ve written in support of gun rights for years. In a fallen and dangerous world, a responsible, trained gun owner could help keep his or her family safe. But the gun rights movement is changing. A cheerleader accidentally tries to get in the wrong car and is pursued and shot, along with her friend.
An Illinois gunmaker is again advertising its AR-15 rifle for kids, called the "JR-15." A company spokesperson told Vice's Motherboard it will take orders for the rifle later in 2023. The JR-15 is a .22 long rifle roughly 20% smaller than a standard AR-15 that weighs less than 2-and-½ pounds. The state later passed a law banning gun marketing toward children, and this week several pro-gun groups lost an initial bid to block the ban. Wee 1 Tactical confirmed to Motherboard that the JR-15 would be at the show.
American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor have reported weaker sales in their shooting categories of late. But the past year has seen gun sales fall precipitously as demand wanes. Sturm, Ruger & Company did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. Other major gun companies including American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor, which purchased Remington Ammunition out of bankruptcy in late 2020, are seeing similar declines in gun sales. Vista Outdoor reported a sales decline of 4% to $432 million for its sporting products, which includes its Remington acquisition.
Hours later, Eliahna Torres was one of 19 children and two teachers massacred at their elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. Eliahna Torres, 10, was one of 19 children and two teachers massacred at their elementary school in Uvalde, Texas. The settlement came after the victims successfully argued that suing over marketing under state law was an exception to the federal immunity measure. Everytown is also part of a similar lawsuit after a shooting attack on parade-goers in Highland Park, Illinois, based on a state law. Another parent whose child was wounded in the shooting and two parents whose children were on campus at the time filed the first suit related to the Uvalde shooting in late September.
MEXICO CITY, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Mexico's government filed a new lawsuit against five Arizona gun dealers on Monday accusing them of participating in illicit weapons trafficking, a Mexican official told Reuters, in a push to hold retailers responsible for the deadly trade. Mexican leaders have for years blasted illegal arms smuggling from the United States, with military-style guns often turning up at deadly crime scenes in the country. All of the retailers named as defendants are based in the southwestern U.S. state of Arizona, which borders northern Mexico's Sonora state. The new suit follows a $10 billion civil lawsuit filed by the Mexican government against U.S. gun manufacturers last year in Boston, which was dismissed by a U.S. judge late last month. "There is traceability information that shows that weapons that have been found in criminal scenes in Mexico were sold by those corporations we are suing today," Celorio said.
The letter, which was signed by Warren, Senator Chris Murphy and U.S. Representative Joaquin Castro, was sent to Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. Register now for FREE unlimited access to Reuters.com RegisterIn 2020, President Donald Trump's administration eased firearms exports when it moved export license oversight from the U.S. State Department to the Commerce Department. However, in the first 16 months since the Commerce Department took over firearm export licensing, it approved nearly $16 billion worth of licenses. The lawmakers, citing U.S government data, said that was a 30% increase from when the State Department controlled firearms licensing. Warren and the other Democrats also expressed concern that since taking over oversight, the Commerce Department had denied 0.4% of license applications and approved 95%.
America’s relationship to gun ownership is unique, and its gun culture is a global outlier. It is then unsurprising that the US has more deaths from gun violence than any other developed country per capita. A 2019 study published in the British Medical Journal found that US states with more permissive gun laws and greater gun ownership had higher rates of mass shootings. A decade of gun violence, culminating with the Port Arthur massacre in 1996, prompted the Australian government to take action. Many countries around the world have been able to tackle gun violence.
